In-Depth · Hangar Rentals for General Aviation

Book a hangar in under a minute. Sleep easy knowing your aircraft is indoors.

Quick Hangar is the first app-based marketplace for short-term hangar rentals — an hour, a day, or longer — to launch on both iOS and Android. Real-time availability, Master Lock smart-lock access, and instant booking. No phone calls, no back-and-forth. Think Uber, but for airplane hangars.

01 · Origin

Built by a pilot who was tired of tying down.

Quick Hangar was founded by Dane Power, a Beechcraft Bonanza owner based in Hutchinson, Kansas, who spent five years on a waiting list for a hangar at his home airport. Five years of tying down on the ramp, checking weather forecasts, and hoping nothing happened to an aircraft he cares about deeply.

The idea behind Quick Hangar is deceptively simple: if you're leaving town and your hangar will be empty, why not let a fellow pilot use it? And if you're flying somewhere overnight, why should the only options be tying down on the ramp or calling around to FBOs hoping they have space?

Dane started coding the app in May 2025. By December 2025, Quick Hangar was live on the Apple App Store — and Google Play a week later. Today, the platform has hangars listed across 12 states and growing, with pilots signing up every day.

But the app is Phase 1 of a bigger vision. Phase 2 is about unlocking new hangar construction — making the economics work for developers and investors to build T-hangars at the 5,000+ general aviation airports across the United States. Phase 3 is a self-sustaining ecosystem where the hangar shortage becomes a thing of the past.

"It's amazing to think of a world that didn't have Uber. In fact, it's hard to even remember what we used to do. We want Quick Hangar to be that for hangars — an expectation at every airport, not a luxury." — Dane Power, Founder · Quick Hangar

The reality for most GA pilots: parking on the ramp beside hangars that may or may not have space. Quick Hangar is changing that.

02 · The Platform

From ramp to hangar in under a minute.

Quick Hangar is built as a native iOS and Android app with one goal: make booking a hangar as easy as booking a hotel room. No phone calls, no messaging back and forth, no uncertainty about availability.

For Pilots

1

Browse the live map

See available hangars in real time. Green means available right now. Red means occupied. No guessing, no stale listings.

2

Book instantly

Reserve through the app with your saved payment method. The booking starts immediately — no approval wait, no messaging the owner, no phone calls. (Apple Pay and Face ID streamlining are part of Quick Hangar's v2 roadmap.)

3

Walk in — access is already granted

On Master Lock smart-lock hangars, your access is automatic the moment your booking starts. Bluetooth unlock from your phone, slide the door, taxi in. For hangars without smart locks, the app's chat coordinates access directly with the operator — no personal contact info shared.

4

Extend or check out

A countdown timer appears on your lock screen. Need more time? Add it with a tap. When you're done, lock up and go. The hangar owner gets paid automatically.

For Hangar Owners

1

List your hangar for free

Add your hangar with photos, dimensions, and amenities. Set your own daily rate — short stays are pro-rated automatically. It takes under 5 minutes and costs nothing.

2

Toggle availability

Leaving town? Your plane in annual? Flip the toggle to "available." Coming home? Flip it back. Real-time, no delays.

3

Get paid automatically

Payments flow directly to your bank account via Stripe Express Connect — the same payment infrastructure used by Lyft, DoorDash, and Instacart. Bank setup takes about 5 minutes. No invoicing, no chasing checks.

03 · For Pilots

Stop hoping it doesn't hail.

Every GA pilot knows the feeling. You fly somewhere for the weekend, park on the ramp, set your tie-downs, and spend the next two days watching the weather app. One hailstorm, one windstorm, one careless lineman cranking your nose gear too hard — and your aircraft takes damage that's expensive, painful, and sometimes irreplaceable.

Quick Hangar exists so you never have to settle for the ramp again. Whether you're on a cross-country trip, diverting for weather, or visiting family for the weekend, there should be a hangar waiting for you — and you should be able to book it from your phone without calling anyone.

🔒

Keyless access via Master Lock smart locks

On hangars with Master Lock smart locks, access is granted automatically the moment your reservation starts — and revoked at checkout. No codes to remember, no keys to pick up.

⚡

Real-time availability

The map shows what's actually available right now — not what was available last week. WebSocket-powered, same approach as FlightAware.

📐

Aircraft-fit verification

Listings include door width and hangar dimensions. The platform automatically cross-checks against your aircraft's wingspan, length, and height — including a built-in safety buffer — before letting you book. Specs are pulled from a verified aircraft registry, so you don't have to know them by heart. Box hangars include a visualizer showing exactly how multiple aircraft fit together.

🛡️

Your aircraft, your control

Self-service T-hangars. You taxi in, you taxi out. No FBO line crews, no tow bars, no one else touching your airplane.

💳

Simple pricing

Operators set a daily rate; short stays are pro-rated by the hour (daily ÷ 24) so a quick weather divert doesn't cost a full night. Typical rates: $50–$150/day. You see the total upfront — no hidden fees.

Think about this: Your Bonanza, your Cherokee, your 172 — it's probably the only one in the world set up exactly the way yours is. Unlike a car, you can't just go get another one. Quick Hangar exists so your aircraft sleeps indoors, even when you're away from home.

04 · For Hangar Owners

Your hangar is empty. Why?

Your plane is in annual for three weeks. You're on vacation. You're flying to a fly-in and won't be back until Sunday. Whatever the reason — your hangar is sitting empty, and there's a pilot 50 miles away who would happily pay to park indoors — whether for a few hours during a weather divert or overnight.

Quick Hangar connects you with that pilot. Listing is free. There's no contract, no minimum commitment, and you stay in full control of when your hangar is available. At the worst, nothing changes. At the best, you make a few hundred dollars doing absolutely nothing.

Zero cost, zero risk. It's free to list your hangar on Quick Hangar. There's no subscription, no setup cost, no contract. You only pay a 7.5% owner fee when someone actually books — and only on completed bookings. No bookings, no fees.

Who's listing hangars?

Most hangar owners on Quick Hangar are individual aircraft owners who want to put their empty space to work. Some own hangars at multiple airports. Others just want to cover their monthly rent while their plane is in the shop. The common thread: they'd rather earn money from an empty hangar than leave it sitting idle.

What about my lease?

This is the most common question — and a fair one. Quick Hangar's transient model is different from subleasing. You're not renting out your hangar long-term or giving up your tenancy. You're offering short-term, overnight use when you're not there. Most airport authorities are supportive once they understand the model, and Quick Hangar can help you navigate the conversation with your airport manager.

Your plane is in annual, you're on vacation, you're at a fly-in — your hangar is empty. Quick Hangar puts it to work.

05 · For FBOs

List your hangars. Pay nothing.

The 7.5% owner fee is waived for FBOs. No listing fee. No owner fee. The pilot still pays Quick Hangar a 7.5% service fee plus standard Stripe processing fees on their side — but you receive 100% of your listed daily rate. That's the deal, and it's the permanent model.

If you're an FBO with transient hangar space, Quick Hangar handles everything you currently do manually: availability, booking, payment, and access. No more phone calls, no more texting codes, no more staff time spent coordinating hangar use.

📱

No staff time required

Pilots book and access hangars through the app. Your team doesn't need to be involved unless you want them to be.

💰

Keep 100% of revenue

You set the price. You get the full amount. Quick Hangar's fee is paid by the pilot, not you.

🔄

Real-time accuracy

Toggle availability on and off. Pilots only see what's actually open. No false positives, no disappointed customers.

📊

New revenue channel

If you have hangar space sitting empty between based tenants, Quick Hangar turns idle inventory into transient revenue.

There's a model emerging where airports can list a row of T-hangars on Quick Hangar all at once — most for based tenants, a couple reserved for transient traffic at premium daily rates. The transient revenue covers the gap between break-even and profitability for the entire row.

06 · Why Quick Hangar

What makes it different?

📱

First to launch on iOS and Android

Other companies have announced apps. Quick Hangar is the first hangar-booking platform to launch on both the Apple App Store and Google Play — live and operational, not "coming soon."

⚡

Real-time, not stale listings

WebSocket-powered availability updates, same technology as Uber and FlightAware. Green or red. Available or not. No back-and-forth messaging.

🔑

Master Lock smart locks

On smart-lock-equipped hangars, the app grants access automatically when your reservation starts and revokes it at checkout. Bluetooth from your phone — no codes, no keys, no phone tag. Hangars without smart locks use in-app chat to coordinate access without sharing personal contact info.

🛡️

Insurance partnership in development

Quick Hangar is developing a dedicated insurance product through an insurance partnership, modeled on Turo's coverage for car-sharing. Purpose-built protection is on the roadmap — more information to follow.

🔧

Self-service T-hangars

The focus is on T-hangars where you handle your own aircraft. No FBO line crews, no tow bars, no risk of someone else damaging your plane during hangar operations.

🏗️

A bigger vision

Quick Hangar isn't just an app — it's a platform designed to prove that new hangar construction is economically viable, unlocking private investment in airport infrastructure nationwide.

07 · Pricing

Transparent fees. No surprises.

Quick Hangar keeps it simple. Operators set their own daily rate, and the platform automatically pro-rates short stays at the hourly equivalent (daily ÷ 24) so a 3-hour weather divert doesn't cost a full day. The platform takes a small percentage of each booking — and FBOs don't pay anything at all.

User Type Listing Fee Booking Fee You Receive
Individual Hangar Owner Free 7.5% owner fee per booking 92.5% of listed price
Primary Tenant (subletting) Free 7.5% owner fee per booking 92.5% of listed price
FBO Operator Free Owner fee waived 100% of listed price
Pilot (booking) — 7.5% service fee + Stripe processing —

Typical daily rates on the platform range from $50 to $150, depending on location, hangar size, and amenities. Some hangars with bathrooms, crash pads, or kitchen access command higher rates — and pilots are happy to pay for the convenience.

All payments are processed securely through Stripe (Express Connect — the same payment infrastructure used by Lyft, DoorDash, and Instacart). Funds pass directly to the hangar owner's bank account — Quick Hangar never holds your money.

09 · FAQ

Questions pilots actually ask.

Am I violating my lease if I list my hangar on Quick Hangar?

Quick Hangar's transient model is different from traditional subleasing. You're not giving up your tenancy or renting long-term — you're offering short-term overnight use when your hangar is empty. Most airport authorities are supportive once they understand the model. Quick Hangar can help you navigate the conversation with your airport manager, including template language for lease discussions.

What about insurance?

Quick Hangar is developing a dedicated insurance product through an insurance partnership, modeled on Turo's coverage for car-sharing. The goal is built-in protection for both hangar owners and visiting pilots once the product launches — more information to follow. In the meantime, your existing hangar insurance typically covers the structure itself, and pilots carry their own aircraft insurance.

How do I get paid?

Payments are processed through Stripe and deposited directly into your linked bank account. Quick Hangar uses a pass-through model — we never hold your money. Funds are transferred after each completed booking.

What if someone damages my hangar?

A hangar is a steel structure — there's very little a visiting pilot could do to damage it. And their incentive is aligned with yours: if they damage the hangar, they're far more likely to damage their own aircraft. The insurance product in development is intended to add formal coverage for this scenario once it launches.

Can I control when my hangar is available?

Absolutely. The app has a real-time availability toggle — green means available, red means occupied. You control it with one tap. No one can book your hangar unless you've explicitly made it available.

How is Quick Hangar different from Hangar Direct or Hangar Trader?

Hangar Direct and Hangar Trader are listing sites — think Craigslist for hangars — built for sales and long-term rentals. Quick Hangar is built for short-term stays (an hour, a day, or longer) with real-time availability, in-app booking, instant payment, and Master Lock smart-lock access. No other platform offers the full end-to-end experience from search to unlock.

How far in advance can I book?

You can book on the spot for immediate stays, or reserve a hangar up to months in advance. Advance bookings require a 10% non-refundable deposit at the time of reservation; the remaining 90% is automatically charged 2 days before your arrival. Advance reservations must be made a minimum of 3 days ahead. Email and SMS confirmations go out at every stage — including reminders before any auto-charge.

Is my payment and personal information safe?

Yes. Quick Hangar never sees or stores credit card numbers — payments run directly through Stripe, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified (the highest standard in the industry). Sensitive documents like driver's licenses and pilot certificates are encrypted with AES-256 at rest. Financial details on your account page sit behind a "View Details" toggle so they're never visible at a glance. HTTPS everywhere, hardened session security, and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) protection on every form.

Who can use Quick Hangar?

Quick Hangar is currently US-only and requires a US phone number and verified email to create an account. The platform is open to general aviation pilots, aircraft owners, flight schools, charter operators, and fixed-base operators. Hangar owners can be individuals, primary tenants (subletting), or FBOs.

What if something goes wrong with a booking?

Every booking has a "Report a Problem" option. Both parties get each other's contact info at confirmation so issues can be resolved directly when possible. The app has real-time chat with notifications, and Quick Hangar's support team monitors disputes and can intervene when needed. Reservations have clear status tracking — pending, confirmed, cancelled, or completed.

Is the app available on both iOS and Android?

Yes. Quick Hangar is live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app is free to download and free to use. You only pay when you book a hangar (pilots) or when someone books yours (individual owners and primary tenants, at 7.5%).

Why should FBOs list on Quick Hangar?

Because the 7.5% owner fee is waived for FBOs. No listing fee, no owner fee. The pilot pays Quick Hangar a service fee on their side, and you receive 100% of your listed daily rate. It replaces phone calls and manual coordination with automated, real-time booking.
